The historical ordering by subject matter gives a sense of New Zealand as a place which grows and changes over the years. The first edition was published in 1993, reprinted twice in 1994 and again later in the decade, now unavailable for five years. There is plenty of fine new work from new poets over the past 10 year to sustain an expanded edition: Glen Colquhoun, Kate Camp, Anna Jackson, Anne Kennedy, Emma Neale, James Brown, Chris Price, Kapka Kassabova and Sonja Yelich.
