'Operation Spanner' was the codename of an investigation carried out by police in Manchester (UK) in 1987. The police had obtained a video which they believed depicted acts of sadistic torture. Convinced that the people in the video were being tortured and killed, a murder investigation was launched resulting in raids on a number of properties and culminating in a number of arrests.
