The story is about a kid growing up in the urban section of Detroit. The story takes place when he is six years old and he goes through some dramatic changes in his life over the next twenty years. His father was a victim of a scandal at his job, which his actions had a devastating effect on his family, especially his six-year old son. Destined not to become another statistic of black folks growing up in urban cities of America, the six-year old stayed focused and grounded despite the turmoil that was going on with his family. In short, he doesnat take the same road his father and brothers took. With his motheras help, he turned out to be someone he and his mother can be proud of. And eventually, some twenty years later, his father has become proud of him for having not taken the path he took when times got tough.
