Ladysmith Black Mambazo is Africa's most beloved musical ensemble, charming listeners worldwide with their unique mbube and isicathamiya harmonizing. The band's popularity in the U.S. has led to several collaborations with big name domestic artists; that collaborative spirit sparked this collection of duets between the band and some of today's top singers. The songs offer a mix of Ladysmith standards and American folk/pop classics.
Sarah McLachlan, Paul Simon, Lou Rawls, Bill Chapin, Taj Mahal and Melissa Etheridge are just a few of the guests making an appearance, singing in tandem with the band. The musical arrangements are a further blending of both sides of the Pacific, mixing African rhythms and some African instrumentation with Western pop elements. The highlights of the album come when Ladysmith Black Mambazo is front and center, as on the a cappella "Homeless" (with McLachlan) and "One Blood" (with Mbongeni Ngema).
