Welcome to Meditation for Teenagers. This CD has been designed for use by teenagers, and/or teachers & other people who work with teenagers to introduce the process of mindful meditation & relaxation to help them incorporate the practice of meditation into their daily lives.
It is designed for teenagers to use at home but it can also be used in group settings and at
school.
Mindful Meditation - which is really about bringing teenagers into the present
moment & allowing them to bring calm, stillness & relaxation into their lives & also enables
them to alleviate stress & anxiety by resting, calming & rejuvenating their bodies, minds &
spirits.
Why is stress a problem in teenager's lives?
There are societal concerns about the growing numbers of chronically unhappy, hyperactive, depressed, lethargic and unmotivated children, now being seen by clinicians. In today's fast-paced society there are few opportunities for quiet, reflective time for teenagers where they can simply "be". Pushing teenagers too hard, too fast and expecting them to achieve too much can cause them to bur-out. Bullying at school has become rampant in recent times, as has the peer pressure to engage in substance abuse and over sexualised behavours at very young ages.
Teenagers are often left feeling lonely, inadequate, helpless and despondent - with no way to communicate this desperation to others. Making time to simply "be", where teenagers can slow down, let go of their anxieties and worries for a while, rejuvenate and replenish physically, emotionally and spiritually is one of the most important life lessons they can learn.
