I remember as a boy of twelve or so, reading a book called "Two Minute Mysteries." It was a collection of very short mystery stories. Each story provided the clues for solving the mystery. I enjoyed running through those pages at light speed, seeing whether my solution matched the author's or, if I didn't have a solution within five minutes or so, anxiously reading through the author's solution. There's just something about mysteries, about puzzles, that kept me hooked. Years later, that book long gone, I have encountered one comparable little book that brought back some of the joys I'd experinced with "Two Minute Mysteries." Richard Timmins' "So Where's the Punch Line?" is a refreshing treatment of humor. The book compiles numerous anecdotes and jokes, but is unlike any other I've read in this genre: you have to figure out the punch line to each ( the punch lines are provided at the end of the book of course ) Some were easy, some were difficult, and some truly stumped me. I found myself slapping my forehead more than once. But in each case I was entertained. This book brought on a sense of nostalgia, not only because of its resemblance to "Two Minute Mysteries," but also because it touched on issues and eras that I'd not remembered or thought about much. Insightful in the telling, you'll enjoy matching wits with the author. The book is so enjoyable and addicting that once you start, you'll have a hard time putting it down, and will probably want to go through it in one sitting. Be prepared for a page-turning "detective" of a good time. Well written and presented, with situations and characters to whom one can easily relate, the book reveals what it means to be human. Best of all, Igot exactly what I was expecting: the joy of solving puzzles, and, of course, some really good guffaws. Lift your glasses high for this on
