Terry Oldfield takes listeners on an exotic adventure into the heart of the jungle with SPIRIT OF THE RAINFOREST, an album that blends the artist's signature flute playing with nature sounds. Breathy, low-toned pan pipes are used to give the music a South American vibe, which permeates the album from beginning to end. Alto and soprano flutes are interwoven as well, with subtle percussive sounds and the liquid-like tones of the kalimba offering a bit of a tribal flair. The album features many sections where the flute is played in short bursts (similar to how a shakuhachi flute is utilized in traditional Japanese music), making the instrument blend with the tropical birds calling in the backdrop. Of note is the second half of "The Listening Heaven," which brings greater percussion and kalimba into the mix, and makes for a wonderfully exotic sound.
Panpipes, flutes, and native drums combine with the enchanted atmosphere of the rainforest to create a rich canvas upon which to paint your most vivid dreams. This music soars and hovers among the giant trees as we bask in the enormous richness of sound and abundance of life. A classic from a world-renowned Emmy Award nominee! Ideal for the healing arts, yoga, and prayer.
