Bhagavan Das is a living cultural icon of the 60's having ushered in the New Age Spiritual Movement as the first Kirtan Artist in America. He gained worldwide fame from the publication of Be Here Now, the well-known “DIY guide to enlightenment.” The book documents Richard Alpert’s transformation into Ram Dass through an initial encounter with Bhagavan Das. This fateful sequence of events has affected millions of people as it has rippled through time.
His groundbreaking album Ah (1971) produced by Jimi Hendrix's manager Michael Jeffrey's was the first World Music album from Electric Ladyland. Bhagavan Das has also toured with Allen Ginsburg, opened for
the Grateful Dead and sung with Bob Dylan. Alan Watts himself said in a Rolling Stone review that "Bhagavan Das is truly a Master of Nada Yoga."
Bhagavan Das went on to record a number of albums that are considered classics including Now, produced by Beastie Boy Mike D. This album brought traditional Indian chants together with contemporary beats and loops.
With his second Nutone release, The Howler at Dawn, he expands the sound of his signature deep tonal chanting, merging a worldly musicalscape with ektara, cymbals, tablas and keyboard - a rare and sacred offering of ancient Indian Sanksrit mantras.
Beloved by his many fans and devotees he continues to touch the hearts of all those who interact with him.
