Mystical and inviting, Atmospheres
gently envelopes and embraces you in a blanket of musical colour. From the peaceful, guiding notes of the piano to the sonorous strings of the cello to the interwoven sounds of nature, Deuter has once again created an stirringly beautiful album that is sure to entrance and calm the soul. Stroll through the landscapes of Deuter's musical masterpiece and find yourself in enchanted and blissful serenity.
A truly beautiful, hushed, and reverent little masterpiece, Atmospheres
can never overstay its welcome because it never occupies the centre stage, remaining always just out reach, as ephemeral and essential as the fading wisps of dream from the night before, the birds still singing to the vanished sun. Such is the case in the softly falling piano cycles in Nine, which are gradually subsumed into soft beds of moody strings and flute.
The perfect thing to play for the kids who can't sleep, the melodies always seem to be continually winding down, like that music box from the hazily remembered childhood dresser top, slowly coming to a peaceful stop, ready to start up again with the simple wind of the silver dial, whenever the child once more awakens.
About the Author
If Deuter does not give you his exact address you'll most likely never find his domain. It is hidden deep in the New Mexico forest he shares with birds, deer, roadrunners, snakes and coyotes. The sound of wind chimes and bees fill the air. He is a beekeeper; recently he's been regularly visited by a bear who rather indelicately tried to sample the sweet wares of his hives.
Between studio sessions you'll probably find the musician reshaping his pond or crafting zen-like furniture in his workshop. Deuter describes himself as a hermit/monk/wolf living in the wild (and enjoying it!). He designed his house using the principles of Feng Shui.
The studio, with its large windows and views of the forest, is a sanctuary ? a laboratory for music-making that includes instruments from all over the world: Shakuhachi flutes, sitars, tablas, santoors, a Turkish sasz, and a Persian tar; Chimes, bowls, Tibetan bells and of course, keyboards, guitars, and synthesizers. If you are lucky enough to be invited into Deuter's world while he is recording, you will experience a transformation as he disappears into the magic of his music.

Reviews of ATMOSPHERES:
'Gentle and serene, yet emotive and complex! An established master musician and composer, this is Deuter at his very finest! Atmospheres is a deeply moving album that envelopes, delights, and uplifts!' Honey Harris, KBAC Radio
With Atmospheres, Deuter creates a dreamy, somber, yet soothingly nostalgic haze, a drowsy music-box melody stretched in the vortex of our first memories as babies, down at the base of the tree from which our whole spirit and personality has grown; our whole conception of the world still, when it comes right down to it, based around the shapes of a mobile that once revolved gently over our cribs while the birds chirped outside. "Uno" is a similarly gentle, delicate piano melody, a slow and slightly melancholic nursery rhyme filtered through the backward gazing mirror of maturity, filled with wistful sadness against a backdrop of warm, barely audible drones.

The watercolor ambiance of Deuter, with its gentle fluidity and occasional touch of ethnicity, is like a sonic meditation. In his musical worlds, quiet tones glide in tandem with serene instrumentation and billowy synthesizers. ATMOSPHERES continues down this path, only this time with greater emphasis on natural ambiance, like birdsong and environmental effects. The main melody component of the ten pieces presented is the low-key wanderings of the piano, presented in a slow, deliberate progression of notes. An occasional bit of cello meanders into the picture from time to time, lending the music a hint of melancholy depth, and synthesizers provide a shimmering backdrop. Atmospheres is clearly one of Deuter?s more subtle albums, and it is an absolutely perfect pick for spiritual and healing work.
New Age music?s origin continues to be a subject for endless debate, but assuredly, one of its founding artists has to be the extremely talented Deuter, who released his first album back in 1971. I don?t think anyone makes more soothing, serene music that speaks directly to the listener?s heart. Atmospheres will remove your stress and worries through its flowing melodies heard on piano, flute, guitar, cello, keyboards, tambura, and santoor, accented by an assortment of nature sounds. One of Deuter?s more minimal releases, this CD is an ideal choice for massage, yoga, tai chi, or simply relaxing. While the use of cello on several tracks imparts a semi-classical feel to the music (Deuter states he was deeply moved by the Monet painting ?Les Nympheas,? which may be the impetus behind that instrument?s inclusion), the reverbed piano, lush synth undercurrents, and other trademark Deuter elements are present in abundance. Deuter has once again worked his magic on this album filled with peace and serenity. Interweaving piano and cello with flutes, bells, gongs, guitar, voice, tambura, santoor and nature sounds, this music is very relaxing. Each piece?from Uno to Dieci?takes you deeper into an enchanted world of color and texture and sound, delicately guided by the piano and cello. ?I am inspired by nature,? Deuter confesses, ?and use my impressions much in the way Monet transformed his love and impressions of water lilies into his final masterpiece, ?Les Nympheas.?? Atmospheres was created after his experience of this painting in Paris, the music conveying an impressionistic emptiness and lack of formal structure that allows the listener to simply Be. Among Deuter?s many great compositions, this one is a masterpiece. Light of Consciousness Magazine
With four decades of outstanding, pioneering music, Deuter?s place in New Age and Healing Music is firmly established. Deuter has made over a dozen releases for New Earth Records alone (favorites include ?Buddha Nature,? ?East of the Full Moon,? ?Sun Spirit,? and ?Nada Himalaya? ? the latter entirely comprised of bells, singing bowls, gongs and chimes), not to mention his prior catalog of another dozen fine releases, dates back to the early 1970?s. From early classics such as ?Haleakala? and ?Ecstasy? to mid-period gems such as ?Land of Enchantment? and ?Silence is the Answer,? this German-born artist now residing in New Mexico has gracefully traversed the fine line between music for meditation and celebration, often brilliantly blending the two. His is a multi-instrumentalist who is wonderfully adept with flute, guitar, keyboards, tamboura, santoor, bells, gongs, voice and, at times, bringing nature sounds into the mix as well. On Atmospheres, his superb new release, he uses the song of birds, crickets, the ocean and mountain stream as part of his aural tapestry. While it may seem that there is no clear definition or formal structure to this music, let me assure you that, as the listener, you will create your own forms to define the experience. Like the paintings of Monet, who inspired this CD, in their impressionistic emptiness and floral beauty, Deuter?s music reflects a sense of no beginning, no end. He understands deeply the infinite joy found in the space of that inner existence as manifest in the outer world that we see, feel and hear. Lloyd Barde Aura Magazine
I can?t think of an artist better suited than Deuter to release an album entitled Atmospheres. Released in January of this year, Atmospheres has been well received by reviewers and audience alike. Atmospheres has also been submitted for consideration in the 2010 Grammy Award process.
Deuter released his first album back in 1971, and has since then been known for his atmospheric albums ? but this years? new addition to his already impressive discography must be one of his best.
Atmospheres contains ten tracks that simply are named 1-10 in different languages.
This is one of those albums that you just have to discover for yourself. Put it on, and you?ll get the perfect atmosphere. blog NewAgeMusic.nu
