About the Author
Maggie Dent is an author, educator, and parenting and resilience specialist with a particular interest in the early years and adolescence. Maggie is a passionate advocate for the healthy, commonsense raising of children in order to strengthen families and communities. She has a broad perspective and range of experience that shapes her work, a slightly irreverent sense of humour and a depth of knowledge based on modern research and ancient wisdom that she shares passionately in a commonsense way.

Maggie grew up in a large family on a farm in rural south-west Western Australia with 4,000 acres and 10,000 sheep. Her childhood and adolescence were shadowed by low self-esteem, and this experience built the foundation for her work today.

She was a high-school teacher for 17 years before working as a counsellor with young people and their families, in suicide prevention and in palliative care. Her experience also included working as a radio announcer on ABC in WA, in the funeral industry, and as a marriage and funeral celebrant. Her proudest achievements are her four spunky sons.

Maggie the speaker Maggie runs seminars nationally and internationally that give children, adolescents, parents, teachers, professionals and communities the knowledge and tools they need to build their personal and professional resilience. Her aim is to inspire, encourage and assist every person on this planet to maximise their human potential. Maggie has an exceptional ability to give people the guidance and insight to manage, re-group and rebuild after adversity. She has a special passion for children, teenagers and young adults ? and she helps mums and dads master the unique dance of parenting in an inspirational and encouraging way.

Reviews of Real Kids in an Unreal World: How to build resilience and self-esteem in today's children:

‘Real kids in an Unreal world’ is a gem of wisdom, plain and simple. The book would appear to have been published from the ‘tree of knowledge’ and is a very good guidebook to keeping kids normal in today’s fast paced world. Maggie Dent breaks down the essentials of raising well adjusted children into 10 building blocks. — Mamamia.com

"I like that this book is presented in a simple, easy-to-delve-into format. The fact is, few parents have the time to sit down and read a parenting tome cover to cover. Instead, you dip into them here and there, zeroing in on the bits that are relevant at that time. This is where the format of Real Kids in an Unreal World works – sure, you can read it cover-to-cover but you can also open it to any page and grab some really useful information." — Babyology.com ‘Real kids in an Unreal world’ is a gem of wisdom, plain and simple.
