Fifteen years ago, some close friends of the authors went through a painful and shattering divorce. Feeling powerless to help, as friends usually do, Steve and Shaaron begain a long term project to understand, for themselves as much as anyone else, how to make love work.
Most marriages experience growth phases which if not understood or supported properly, often blow their partners apart. Conflict, and what looks like an impossible incompatibility between men and women overall, is in fact the thing that burns off immaturity, selfishness, and lack of awareness, and can lead to deeper happiness over decades, than anything which young lovers can experience.
Practical, funny, powerful, and intensely personal, this book is the least known of the Biddulph's books. It is also the one that readers most often stop them and say 'thank you' for.
A thousand times better than Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' The Age 'This aim of this book is simple: to help you stay married - and loving it. And secondly, to help you raise children with a team approach, and survive the dramas and delights that children bring. So instead of being a divorce statistic, you can be part of a major social revolution - the breakthrough generation that learns to make relationships work. If you want your marriage to last, without compromising your spirit, your heart or your values, then this book is for you.
'Steve Biddulph and Shaaron Biddulph's classic book on relationships, The Making of Love, has helped partners all over the world to stay together and yet be true to themselves.
Now completely revised, it includes:
* Love, lust and liking - how we are attracted* Growing commitment in small safe steps
* how having children helps you grow up!
* Getting through the make-or-break crisis that every couple has
* The secret of the sex-romance alliance - love that gets better and better
The Making of Love makes it clear that all healthy couples fight, and that learning to be close and yet individual is what relationships are all about. That men and women are different, but not worlds apart! That sexual tension and communication problems are opportunities to spark new levels of closeness and honesty. Steve and Sharon have an Australian sense of humour and an honesty that both men and women enjoy. They understand the powerful magic of love and also the importance of being your own person - learning to differ, challenge one another, and laugh, on the road to a fulfilling life.
'Love starts out as a blessing, even a fluke, but it continues as an achievement!' Steve and Shaaron Biddulph
