Given the fact that a large portion of Kevin Kern's poignant melodies lend themselves to imaginative flights of fancy, it's not surprising that he would decide to theme an album after a mental journey - actually, it seems like the next logical step. THE WINDING PATH features plenty of Kern's signature piano flourishes and emotive compositions, backed by percussion, flutes, synthesizers and keyboard filigree (especially those trimmings that give the music a "magical" effect). The album's title alludes to the prescribed visualization exercise, where listeners are encouraged to imagine themselves wandering through an Eden-like forest, shedding their cares with every step. Whether used for meditation or simply relaxation, this is a beautiful album worth its slot in your CD rotation.
